Although Pune has been a major hub for most automotive German companies and IT firms in India, the city is best loved for its authentic aura as well. Another reason to fall in love with the city even more is that my family and I belong here.
First off, let me begin with elaborating upon the weather here. While monsoons have incredible rains, it is chillingly cold during winters. Summers could not be any hotter. The best time to visit Pune is June to September, when it pours the most.
During monsoons, Lonavala and Khandala become the prime tourist spots. As these beautifully scenic places are not too far away from Pune, we drive our way to experience the lush greenery and the charm of rains here. Other modes of transport in Pune are the private vehicles, auto rickshaws, cabs and Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) buses as well.
Moreover, foreign tourists who come to Pune to witness major attractions such as Shaniwar Wada, Aga Khan Palace, Mulshi Dam, Sinhgad, Osho Commune International, Shivneri Fort, Lal Mahal etc., and travel in government-run trains or private airlines as most of these destinations are close to the Pune Railway and Pune Airport.
Most of my relatives too come over from places as far as Chennai, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bangalore to visit prime spots like the Saras Baug, Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple, Parvati Hill and Temple, Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum and the Vetal Hill.
My lovely nieces come over all the way from Shimla, Andhra Pradesh and Bhopal every year to visit the famous Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park and the Katraj Snake Park, as they are major wildlife enthusiasts in the family.
I remember it was last winter when almost all my relatives were here to spend the vacation and owing to the lack of space, we had to book a couple of hotel rooms. We considered our options from various Pune hotels including Beverly Hills, Celebrations Inn, Formule1 Pune, Gandharv Residency and Hotel Sunderban to name a few. Although on a tight budget, we ensured that our guests receive the best of hospitality and services.
It gets a little hectic but then I guess Pune is unarguably one of the most beautiful cities in India and therefore people would surely be attracted to it. The place is warm and welcomes everyone with a huge heart. We are just proud to be here!
